Klis Castle

The history of Klis Fortress dates back to the Middle Ages, and the fortress occupies a strategic position on a hill above the village of Klis, which is located about 12 km from the center of Split. The fortress was originally very small, owned by one of the local tribes in the village. Over time, it became the property of several kings of Croatia, and it was gradually developed until it grew into a large fortress that occupies the entire hill.

Klis Fortress was used as a defensive stronghold for the city of Split due to its strategic location, which provides a complete view of the surrounding area from its elevation of 360 meters. The fortress gained fame for its defensive maneuvers against Ottoman attacks.

Today, Klis Fortress is a tourist attraction and a destination for history and archaeology enthusiasts.
