Bilad Sur Fort in the Sultanate of Oman
Bilad Sur Fort is located in the city of Sur, which is considered the capital of the Eastern Region in the Sultanate of Oman. One of the main reasons for building this fort was to protect the city from land attacks, considering its location far from the sea. It is one of the most famous forts in the Sultanate of Oman.
History of Bilad Sur Fort:
The construction of Bilad Sur Fort dates back to the 18th century AD. The fortress was a defensive structure against land attacks, with its walls rising 6 meters high. The fort is surrounded by palm trees from the outside, and it hosted various social events and celebrations and served as the main residence of the governor.
Contents of Bilad Sur Fort:
Bilad Sur Fort provides insights into the importance of forts and defensive structures. It consists of four defensive towers, namely the Market Tower, Trench Tower, Jalan Tower, and a two-story tower that overlooks the area outside the fort. The surroundings of the fort are adorned with vast green areas filled with palm trees. Today, the Bilad Sur Fort is used to celebrate national holidays and welcome tourists.
