Al Jalali Castle - The Eastern Castle
Al Jalali Castle, also known as the Eastern Castle, is an archaeological fortress overlooking the Sea of Oman, built by the Portuguese in the city of Muscat.
In the past, the castle was used as a prison, and later it served as a defensive fortress for the city. During the reign of the late Sultan Qaboos, the castle was restored and transformed into a private museum.
The height of the castle reaches approximately 45 meters above sea level, strategically situated on a rock that can only be accessed through a small bridge leading to one of its fortifications.
Naming of Al Jalali Castle:
Some attribute the naming of the castle to "Al Jalal," meaning supreme beauty, while others link it to the Omani prince Jalal Al-Hooti Al-Balushi.
