Suomenlinna Fortress: A Historical Experience Amidst Culture and Heritage

Suomenlinna Fortress is located approximately four kilometers from the center of Helsinki. Despite being situated on Finnish territory, it was the Swedes who constructed this fortress in 1748 with the purpose of safeguarding their lands from constant attacks by their historical adversary, Russia. With the onset of the Finnish national movement in 1918, the fortress's original name was replaced with its current name.

Suomenlinna Fortress stands on the shores of the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. Its walls span a distance of six kilometers, dotted with 100 cannons, and surrounded by vast expanses of gardens and green lands. The fortress offers a splendid view from atop its walls of the sea and the gardens, making it an excellent destination for history and heritage enthusiasts.
