Tunnel Museum in Sarajevo
The Tunnel Museum is one of the most significant relics remaining from the civil war that took place in the 1990s in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is a notable tourist attraction in the city of Sarajevo.
The tunnel marked a turning point in the history of Bosnia and the resilience of its people. The story of Sarajevo shifted from one of suffering to a tale of defiance. The tunnel was the last lifeline connecting the besieged city of Sarajevo to the outside world during the civil war. It sustained the city's needs for nearly 4 years. Hundreds of individuals participated in digging the tunnel, which took around 4 months to create, measuring 800 meters in length and 1.6 meters in height. The house located at the northern entrance of the tunnel was converted into a museum.
A significant portion of the tunnel has been demolished, but the museum allows visitors to walk through the remaining section. The tunnel contains various exhibits that tell the story of the war that the country endured.
