Aya Sophia Mosque and Museum is one of the most important tourist attractions in the city of Trabzon, located in the northeastern part of Turkey. It has undergone various transformations throughout history, from being a church to a mosque, then converted into a public museum in 1964, and finally returned to being an Islamic mosque in 2012.
History of the Construction of Aya Sophia Mosque and Museum:
The construction dates back to the Byzantine era in the 13th century and is considered one of the most beautiful landmarks left by the Byzantine era in Turkey.
In the Aya Sophia garden, you can find a collection of historical artifacts dating back to both Christian and Islamic beliefs. For instance, you can see a verse from Surah Al-Jinn and a variety of Evangelical drawings and depictions. Additionally, there are some Ottoman tombs of the sultan's children, historical Roman columns, the bell tower, and a massive iron cannon erected in the museum garden.
