Masmak Palace
Al-Masmak Palace is a fortress made of mud and was formerly the residence of King Abdulaziz after the capture of Riyadh. It later became a tourist attraction with a small museum inside.

Al-Masmak Palace is located in the center of Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Reason for the Name Al-Masmak Palace:
It is named "Al-Masmak" due to its thick, high, and fortified walls. The word "Masmak" means a thick and fortified building.
Historical Importance of Al-Masmak Palace:
Al-Masmak Palace is one of the oldest remaining buildings in Riyadh. It was built in 1895 by the order of the Governor of Riyadh, Abdulrahman bin Dabban. The palace served as a battleground during the Battle of Riyadh when Abdulaziz Al Saud recaptured Riyadh from the Al-Rashid family.
Interior of Al-Masmak Palace:
Inside Al-Masmak Palace, there is a museum that narrates the unification of the kingdom after the fall of Riyadh into the hands of Al Saud family. The palace consists of five main parts:
- The Palace Gate: Located on the western side of the palace, it was made from palm trunks and reeds.
- The Mosque: Located to the left of the palace entrance.
- The Council Chamber: A room located on the opposite side of the palace entrance.
- The Well: Situated in the northeastern corner of the palace.
- The Towers: The palace has four cylindrical towers distributed at its corners.
Visiting Hours of Al-Masmak Palace:
The visiting hours of Al-Masmak Palace are divided into two periods. The first period is from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the second period is from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
