The Great Mosque of Aleppo
The Great Mosque in Aleppo, also known as the Umayyad Great Mosque, is located in the Jalloum neighborhood of the old city of Aleppo, Syrian Arab Republic. It is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Aleppo. It measures about 105 meters in length and approximately 77 meters in width, with four gates: the northern gate situated beside the minaret, the western gate leading to the Masamireh Street, the eastern gate overlooking the Handkerchief Market, and the southern gate facing the Coppersmiths' Market.
The construction of the Great Mosque began in the 8th century AD during the reign of Walid ibn Abd al-Malik in the year 715 CE, and it was completed in 717 CE. Its minaret was built in 1090 CE, but it suffered destruction during the Syrian War in 2013, along with damages inflicted upon the mosque and its historic library.
