Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano)

The Milan Cathedral, known as Il Duomo di Milano, stands as one of the three largest churches globally and is one of the most remarkable architectural masterpieces in Italy and the world. Construction of the church began precisely in the year 1386 and has continued to expand to this day. The cathedral has an estimated capacity of 40,000 people, covering an area of around 14,300 square meters, and featuring 135 spires that rise to a height of 108.5 meters.

Built in the Gothic architectural style, which bears resemblance to its counterpart, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the cathedral is characterized by its marble-covered walls, floors, and columns. Additionally, it boasts stunning icons, engravings, and intricate details that catch your eye wherever you look within the church. The cathedral's breathtaking stained glass windows and magnificent interior, adorned with numerous paintings and sculptures by Italy's greatest historical artists, further contribute to its beauty. It also houses the tombs of former bishops who presided over the cathedral.
