The ancient city of Al Zubarah

The Archaeological City of Al Zubarah  is a Qatari city that served as a historical landmark, established in the mid-18th century AD. It later evolved to become one of the largest trade centers in the region, particularly in the pearl trade. Currently, the city is uninhabited as its inhabitants abandoned it in the mid-20th century. The site now contains the ruins of Al Zubarah's palaces, houses, and storehouses.

The Archaeological City of Al Zubarah extends over an area of approximately 60 hectares within the surrounding walls of the city. It has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee.

The Archaeological City of Al Zubarah is located on the northwestern coast of Qatar, approximately 105 km away from the city of Doha.

  • The Wall: The wall's length is about two kilometers.
  • The Southern House: Designed in the style of eastern houses, it consists of a square courtyard surrounded by rooms on all four sides.
  • The Northern House: It is a small palace composed of three courtyards surrounded by various rooms for different uses.
  • Al Zubarah Fort: Built in 1938, the fort has three large angular towers, each adorned with a massive circular tower. The fourth corner contains a tower with rectangular edges. The fort includes eight rooms originally designed for accommodating soldiers, but they have been converted into exhibition halls for hosting art exhibitions.
