Theodosius Cistern

The Theodosius Cistern (Turkish: Şerefiye Sarnıcı) is one of the oldest cisterns in the world, located in the Beyazıt Square area of the Fatih district in Istanbul, within the Turkish Republic. It was built in the mid-4th century AD, specifically between 428 CE and 448 CE, to store water coming from the Valens Aqueduct, by order of the Emperor Theodosius.

The Theodosius Cistern is currently used as a tourist attraction, visited by tourists from all over the world, as it contains numerous historical columns that carry the Byzantine splendor of that era.
