The ancient city of Al Baleed

Al Baleed is located in Dhofar Governorate, in the Wilayat of Salalah, and is a historical city with a rich history dating back to the 13th century AD. It was built by the Al-Manjurid rulers during the 4th century AH of the Islamic era.

According to historians and researchers, the site dates back to the Islamic era, where remains of ancient houses, mosque columns, and public facilities were found. The city of Al Baleed suffered destruction at some point in time and was rebuilt in 1221 AD with beautiful architectural arts, decorative inscriptions, and a strong defensive fortification for its walls. Archaeologists continue to conduct ongoing excavations at the site until today.

Within the historic city of Al Baleed, the Ministry of Heritage and Culture established the Land of Frankincense Museum.

The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, except on Saturdays and Fridays when it opens from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
