St. Stephen's Cathedral - The Iconic Landmark of Vienna

The St. Stephen's Cathedral is the mother church of the Archbishop of Vienna, and its construction began in 1137 during the reign of Rudolf IV. The building process took ten years, and the cathedral was officially opened in 1147. Today, the cathedral houses the seat of the current Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Schönborn.

The cathedral is known for its Gothic architecture and medieval design. It features two towers, with the southern tower often referred to as the St. Stephen's Tower, reaching a height of 136 meters. Due to its impressive height, the tower was historically used as an observation point for the city. The northern tower, with a height of 68 meters, was not built higher due to architectural and structural limitations.

The interior of the cathedral is adorned with polished glass windows, totaling around 230,000 pieces, showcasing exquisite architectural and artistic craftsmanship.
