Explore the highest point in Seville: La Giralda Tower
Giralda Tower is one of the most significant landmarks of Seville. Its history dates back to the Islamic period in Al-Andalus when it served as the minaret for the Grand Mosque. The tower was built in 1184 by the Almohads and at that time, it was the tallest tower in the world, reaching a height of around 98 meters. Today, it stands as the bell tower of Seville Cathedral and holds great tourist importance, attracting visitors from around the world. The site was included in the Spanish National Heritage list in 1928 and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
Giralda Tower reflects the remarkable cultural and architectural diversity in its design and details, merging Islamic civilization and Andalusian design with Western Christian culture.
The tower's dome was originally covered in copper before it fell during an earthquake. It was replaced by a Christian cross and a bell in the 16th century. Visitors can ascend the tower through a series of 35 ramps and enjoy a panoramic view of Seville from the top.
