Izmir Clock Tower
The Clock Tower is considered one of the most important historical and tourist landmarks in the city of Izmir. It stands at the center of Konak Square, the famous square in Izmir. The tower was built during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II in the year 1901.
Reason for building the Clock Tower:
The Clock Tower was constructed at a height of 25 meters to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II's accession to the Ottoman throne. The clock's hands were a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II.
Main features of the Clock Tower:
The enchanting beauty of the Clock Tower attracts tourists to capture photos and enjoy the architectural details of the tower. It is surrounded by four fountains that add to the beauty of the place. The columns of the tower and the fountains were specially brought from Marseille. Each corner of the Clock Tower is adorned with plant motifs that give the tower a distinctive touch.
