South Al Batinah

South Al Batinah is one of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, extending between the Arabian Sea to the east and the foothills of the Western Hajar Mountains to the west. The governorate holds significant importance in Oman due to its strategic location and economic potential.

South Al Batinah Governorate consists of six wilayats (provinces): Al Awabi, Nakhal, Wadi Al Maawil, Barka, Al Musannah, and the governorate center, Al Rustaq. The population of the governorate is approximately 500,000 people.

History:

Al Rustaq serves as the center of South Al Batinah Governorate, while the city of Sohar is the regional center of the governorate. Sohar was the capital of Oman before the advent of Islam, known by the name "Majan." It is one of the most important wilayats in the Al Batinah region, renowned for copper production and export for a long time.

Al-Muqaddasi described the city of Sohar in the 10th century AD as a flourishing city with a large population.

Climate:

South Al Batinah has a desert climate, with hot and dry summers where temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius. The winters see occasional and sparse rainfall.
