Al-Dakhiliyah is one of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and holds a strategic position as the interior region of the country.
Al-Dakhiliyah is divided into eight wilayats (provinces), which are:
- Nizwa Wilayat, considered the cultural capital of the Sultanate.
- Izki Wilayat
- Bidbid Wilayat
- Bahla Wilayat
- Samail Wilayat
- Adam Wilayat
- Manah Wilayat
- Al Hamra Wilayat
History:
The Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate has played a significant role in Omani history, especially in the spread of Islam in Oman. Nizwa Wilayat, which served as the capital of Oman during the early Islamic periods, played a crucial role in this regard. It was known for its intellectual activity and as a center for many Omani scholars, jurists, and historians. For this reason, it was referred to as the "Egg of Islam." Its historical fort stands as a witness to this legacy to this day. The region is also dotted with various forts, towers, ancient mosques, and beautiful tourist sites.
Al-Dakhiliyah was a region until it became a governorate on October 28, 2011.
Climate:
Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate experiences hot summers and relatively cool winters.
