Marienplatz Square: A Symbol of History and Liberation in Munich
The name "Marienplatz" is derived from the Marian Column (Mariensäule), which was erected in 1638 to celebrate the end of the Swedish occupation. Marienplatz square is located in the heart of the city of Munich, and it is the vibrant center of the city. The square is connected to two metro stations and a bus station, and it is also close to Munich's main train station.
One of the most recognizable features of the square is the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) at its forefront, along with the former town hall site, which now houses a doll museum.
