Greenwich
On the banks of the River Thames in London lies the town of Greenwich, renowned for its maritime history. It is the home of the "Cutty Sark," a ship dating back to the 19th century. The town also houses the extensive National Maritime Museum and the classical buildings of the Royal Naval College.
Overlooking Greenwich Park stands the Royal Observatory, which houses the Greenwich Meridian Line, the world's prime meridian and a globally recognized reference for time calculation. It has been internationally adopted as the center for Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) since the late 19th century.
