Avenue Habib Bourguiba
Habib Bourguiba Avenue is not just a street for Tunisians; it's the beating heart of the historic and economic capital. It's a museum that witnesses the founding of the state, its revolutions, transformations, joys, sorrows, and is a symbol of Tunisia and its revolution.
The street is named after the founder of the Tunisian Republic and its first president, Habib Bourguiba. Located in the center of the capital, anyone visiting Tunisia can't help but find themselves in the middle of this street.
This avenue is one of the country's most important streets due to its significant landmarks and the events that have left a lasting impact on Tunisians. It features a statue of one of the most renowned historians in history, Ibn Khaldun, as well as a statue of Habib Bourguiba, the famous clock tower, the venerable municipal theater founded in 1902, Tunis Cathedral, and the train station at its end.
Along both sides of Habib Bourguiba Avenue, shaded by numerous trees, there are historic cafes, well-known restaurants, popular shops, cinemas, and theaters. Besides being a spot where locals and tourists gather to enjoy coffee or meals and explore its landmarks, the avenue is also a witness to the historical revolution that took place in Tunisia. In 2011, tens of thousands gathered in this street to overthrow the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, leaving the memory of this street etched in the minds of all Tunisians.
