The history of the palace's construction began with the Copenhagen Castle. Over time, several architectural additions were made to the castle. However, it was found that the castle couldn't withstand the test of time, as its walls and roofs deteriorated and collapsed. Architects concluded that the only way to rebuild it was to demolish and construct a new palace in its place. As a result, Frederick IV ordered the construction of a new palace.
