Al Hoota Cave

The Al Hoota Cave (also known as the Sultanate Cave) is located in Al Hamra, which is part of the Interior Governorate in Oman. It is considered the largest cave of its kind in the country, formed inside the cave by stalactites and stalagmites of calcified salts resulting from rainwater over millions of years.

The cave was discovered by local residents and was named Al Hoota after the village where it is located. In 2007, it was declared a tourist cave. It extends for a distance of 5 km underground, and visitors are only allowed to explore 860 meters of it.

Al Hoota Cave is somewhat dangerous, and it is always recommended to equip yourself fully with climbing gear if you want to explore it. There is also a tourist train inside the cave that takes visitors on a five-minute journey through the valleys and mountains to the cave entrance, with tour guides providing explanations in both Arabic and English.

Photography inside Al Hoota Cave is prohibited to preserve the rock formations.
