Dubai

Dubai (in Arabic: إمارة دبي) is one of the seven emirates that form the United Arab Emirates and is the most populous city in the country. It is located on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Gulf and the northern coast of the emirate. Dubai covers an area of 4,112 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 2.5 million people as of the beginning of 2016. It is a global commercial hub and the leading commercial center in the Middle East, known for its widespread fame and distinctive features in construction, economy, and business.

Name and History:

Dubai was mentioned by the Spanish explorer Gasparo Balbi in 1580, who called it "Dibei," and the city has retained this name since then.

Before Gasparo Balbi's visit, Dubai was inhabited, but its rapid development since the early 1980s has made it challenging to trace its historical civilization, especially with the overwhelming presence of foreign laborers who outnumbered the original citizens by more than twice.

The foundation of the city of Dubai dates back to the year 1833 when it was settled by the Bani Yas tribe, a part of the Al Maktoum family, in the area of Al-Khor, which forms a natural harbor. By the beginning of the 20th century, Dubai's population reached about 20,000 people, and it was known for fishing and pearl diving. With the discovery of oil in 1966, the government used a portion of the oil revenues to build and launch schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and Dubai International Airport. Today, Dubai is one of the world's most important cities thanks to foreign investors and its status as a major global commercial center.

Climate:

Dubai experiences extremely hot weather, with summers being scorching and highly humid. Temperatures can reach up to 48 degrees Celsius on some summer days. Winters are warm, with minimum temperatures sometimes dropping to 8 degrees Celsius, while the highs can reach 26 degrees Celsius.
