Doha (in English: Doha) is the capital of the State of Qatar, located on the eastern coast of the Qatar Peninsula. It has an area of 131 square kilometers and had a population of over 1.5 million according to the 2011 statistics. It is considered one of the important cities in the Arabian Gulf, known for its strong economy and distinguished by its numerous mosques and modern buildings. It gained fame for hosting the largest Asian Games in 2006 and serves as the headquarters of the Al Jazeera media channel.
Name and History:
Doha was named after being a city situated on the Gulf. The city's history dates back to 1686 when it was settled by people who were known for their fishing activities along its shores. At that time, it was known as "Al Bidda." In the mid-19th century, it was inhabited by Mohammed bin Thani, the great-grandfather of the Al Thani family. He formed an alliance with the Al Bidda tribes and managed to sign the first recognition agreement of Qatar's rule in 1868 in Doha, where he passed away.
Climate:
Doha's summer is characterized by being long and extremely hot, extending for most months of the year, with temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees Celsius. In winter, temperatures can drop to 5 degrees Celsius, although rainfall is rare.
