Bern: Discover the Charm of the Swiss Capital

Bern, despite not being the most populous city and despite the presence of the economic city of Zurich and the international city of Geneva, is the administrative capital of Switzerland as well as the capital of the canton of Bern, the second-largest canton in the country.

Bern is located on the Swiss plateau in the west-central part of the country and stretches along the banks of the River Aare in the Swiss plains. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland and Europe, attracting tourists from around the world. History:

The city was founded in 1191 AD by Duke Berthold V of Zähringen and joined the Swiss Confederation in 1353 AD. In the early 15th century, the city suffered a devastating fire that almost completely destroyed it.

Bern was invaded by the French in 1798, and French forces occupied the city until 1815.

In 1831, Bern was chosen as the capital of the canton of Bern, and in 1848, it was selected as the capital of Switzerland.
